Ultrasound image of the brachial artery diameter (top portion of image) and blood velocity (lower portion of image), for the assessment of blood flow at rest as well as during various perturbations (e.g. exercise).
The HNCC laboratory is equipped with three GE ultrasound machines for measurements of peripheral blood flow. Ultrasonographers in the lab are skilled in blood flow measurements in the arm and leg (e.g. brachial, femoral, and popliteal arteries). In addition, we also perform similar measurements to assess cerebral blood flow using the vertebral, internal, and external carotid arteries. Our custom designed Labview software allows us to measure arterial diameter and blood velocity on a beat-to-beat basis.
